Address: Av. 25 Abril

Description:
The new Vendas Novas Market is placed on the Av. 25 de Abril, in an area meant for collective equipment and upon the axis connecting this avenue, the Praça da República and E.N. 4.

This area has recently become very important through the construction of various habitational and commercial programs and the creation of pedestrian spaces.

The location of the market at the end of this axis between relevant buildings such as the high school and the upcoming bus station determines the need for creating a space that serves as a meeting point.

In that sense, the proposed implantation for the new market abandons the previous alignment for other equipment and street level to allow the drawing of a small safeguarded square, giving continuity to the exterior of the market.

In order to subvert the concept of front and back, the new market is organized in U shape, creating an inner patio and an access in every front.

As culmination, and combining the existence of autonomous functions inside the program with the need for creating a visual and contrasting reference with the scales of the neighboring buildings, we recommend the organization of reconstruction areas, buildings and shops in a four storey glazed building to the North and South.

The connection between the two buildings will be done by a skylight that will exteriorly assume a sculptural dimension.

It is an austere building in its finishings and color; a white building with interior pavements, black wainscoting and great glazed surfaces, where red associated with wood appears frequently in shops and restaurants, or in a wall exterior which undulates in massive brick.
